LEAD SERVICE LINE REPLACEMENT

The Illinois Lead Service Line Replacement and Notification Act went into effect January 1, 2022.

This new law requires the replacement of all lead service lines in the State of Illinois.  This Act requires all communities to develop a water service material inventory and lead service line replacement plan.  Inventory of the publicly-owned portion of the service (water main to the parkway shutoff valve/meter pit or B-box) and private portion (B-box or meter pit to inside the house) are both required.

The material inventory must identify each water service, the material classification on both the public and private side, the number of suspected or known services, any completed replacements, and the inventory shall be updated annually as lead services are identified and/or replaced.

The District will be replacing all identified lead service line, from the water main to the B-box in the parkway or meter pit, by 2039.  The District has notified the residents with lead services from the B-box or meter pit to the home of the need to replace their service.  Those residents are required to replace their portion of the lead service line by 2039.
