Information for Persons Requesting Documents and Records Under the Illinois Freedom of Information Act

All persons seeking records from the Glenbrook Sanitary District are encouraged to first check the District’s website. Many documents—such as financials, budgets, meeting agendas, and minutes—are available for immediate download.

Submitting a FOIA Request

Written Requests
- Persons seeking documents and records pursuant to the Illinois Freedom of Information Act (5 ILCS 140) may do so by submitting a written request. A specific form is not required, but the District provides an optional FOIA Request Form for convenience.

Given limited staff resources, FOIA requests cannot be immediately responded to but will be addressed pursuant to statutory timelines.

Electronic Records
Upon written request, records stored electronically will be provided in a printed format that is comprehensible to individuals lacking specialized computer knowledge.

Fees
First 50 pages of black‑and‑white, letter/legal‑sized copies: free.
Additional pages: $0.15 per page.
Electronic records: provided at no cost unless special materials are required.

Response Time

Standard FOIA requests: 5 business days
Commercial requests: up to 21 business days
These timelines follow Illinois FOIA requirements.

If additional time is required, the District will notify the requester in writing.

Appeals & Denials
If a request is denied, the District will provide a written explanation citing the applicable FOIA exemption. Requesters may appeal to the Public Access Counselor at the Illinois Attorney General’s Office.
